Sustainable Agriculture refers to practices of farmers using principles of ecology, the study of relationships between organisms and their environment. It has been defined as "an integrated system of plant and animal production practices having a site - specific application that lasts over the long term".

Sustainable Agriculture addresses the following issues :

  • Satisfying human food and fiber needs.
  • Enhancing environmental quality and the natural resource base upon which the agriculture economy depends.
  • Making the most efficient use of non-renewable resources and on-farm resources and integrate where appropriate natural biological cycles and controls.
  • Sustaining the economic viability of farm operations.
  • Enhancing the quality of life for farmers and society as a whole.

Ken is a certified sustainable supplier to Unilever.

The Unilever Sustainable Agriculture Code is Unilever’s standard of Sustainable Agriculture. With this code, Unilever asks its suppliers and farmers who supply them, to adopt sustainable practices on their farms. All suppliers of agricultural raw materials to Unilever are expected to make a commitment to join Unilever’s sustainability journey. They need to demonstrate that they agree to maintain minimum standards of performance and continuously improve over time.
